Do-It-Yourself Chat Help
If you want to take a crack at solving a problem yourself, here are some suggestions for stopping a user from bothering or annoying you.

Ignore the user's messages in the chat room
You can indicate that you don't want to receive any messages, including private messages, from particular users. Just follow the simple instructions below.

  • Java Chat: On the "Users" tab, highlight the name of the person you want to ignore. Click the "Ignore User" button at the bottom of the panel.
  • Java Light Chat: In the right panel of the screen, double-click the name of the person you want to ignore and check the box next to "Ignore user."
  • HTML Chat: In the right panel of the screen, click the "Users" button. Then click the name of the person you would like to block. Click the "Ignore" button.

Ignore the user's private messages
You can indicate that you do not want to hear from a particular user logged onto the system. If that user tries to send you a direct message, they will receive a system message in their Messages window telling them that their message was ignored. You will not receive their message. To indicate that you want to ignore messages from another user:

  • Highlight their user name in the User list.
  • Choose the Ignore button.

The "Ignore" feature needs to be re-applied if either you or the ignored user logs off and then back on again.
